Dead Hearts
While thousands of Muslims are killed all over the world, and lots of them are imprisoned and tortured
for calling to the path of Allah and for enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, most Muslims remain
remarkably silent and have no worry except for the material things of life. Their hearts have been
filled with the love of this life and the forgetfulness of the Hereafter.
Allah says in the Qur'an:
"Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life,-even more than the idolaters: Each one
of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save
him from (due) punishment. For God sees well all that they do." (Al Baqarah, 2:96).
"And undoubtedly, you will find them that they are necessarily most covetous of life even more than of
all the people. And of idolaters, one is desirous of having a life of thousand years, and that will not
keep him away from the torment, even being granted such life. And Allah is seeing their doings." (Al Baqarah, 2:96).
Many Muslims today have become so much attached to their life that their desire is to dwell among their
family, house, money and commerce. The Shaitan has misled most people by beautifying for them the
performance of certain voluntary acts of worship such as voluntary prayers and voluntary fasting while
neglecting other obligatory acts of worship such as enjoining the good and eradicating the evil.Saitan
sets his traps, under the cover of finding fault with hypocrisy. It can happen that someone refrains
from doing a good deed for fear of being thought a hypocrite. [If Saitan whispers such an idea in your
ear, take no notice; that will frustrate him.]
Indeed, what kind of piety is there in a person who witnesses Allah's sanctities being violated, his
religion abandoned, the Sunnah of His Messenger sallallaho alaihi wassallam shunned, and yet remains
still with a cold heart and a shut mouth' Such a person is like a dumb Shaitan! In the same way the one
who talks falsehood is a speaking Shaitan.
It is a duty upon every sane person to be prepared for his departure (from this world), for one does not
know when he will be served by his Lord's commands (to take away his soul) nor does he know how long it
is going to be before he will be summoned (for the Day of Judgment). So many people enchanted by their
youth. They have forgotten that their peers no longer exist, yet they are preoccupied with prolonged
hopes (to stay alive).
The wise one is he who values each and every moment of his life, observing one's due duties. Then, if
death was to come suddenly, one would be ready (to face The Judge, Allaah subhanahu wata'aala).
